Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke is proud to present in association with Contemporary Fine Arts, Berlin, the first ever exhibition and performance in India by Jonathan Meese.

\"Jonathan Meese is one of the best-known German artists of his generation. Born 1970 in Tokyo, he grew up in Hamburg and now divides his time between that city and Berlin. Meese started out as a painter, but is now equally renowned for his sculptures, installations and attention grabbing performances. Revelling in excess, his art combines references to Christianity, medieval chivalry, occult traditions, German art history, the Third Reich, sexual fetishes, pop culture and the consumer society. He favours cartoon-like drawings and slightly demonic self-portraits influenced by the tradition of horror films. His distorted figures borrow heavily from the German expressionist tradition, but he punctures the seriousness of expressionism by adding doses of Pop or creating campy cross dressing personae. His work is visceral, sensationalist, thought-provoking, and definitely not for the faint-hearted. It would be no exaggeration to say that the Indian art world has seen nothing like it.\"
