GIEVE PATEL

'FOOTBOARD RIDER'

January 19 – March 18, 2017

The man asleep in his seat in a Mumbai local train senses the presence of the footboard rider outside the window. Or is the rider something the man has dreamed? Gieve Patel's latest exhibition of paintings spans transcendental images of looking into a well and visceral images of mourning and consolation. The man in the train carries all these experiences on his resilient shoulders, but, importantly, retains the power to dream.

Gieve Patel was born in 1940 in Bombay. He held his first solo exhibition in Bombay in1966.
